Assuming you have lots of .ts files gained from years of recording. Before uploading to websites for sharing, chances are you want to edit them. The point here, when trying to import these TS files into Adobe Premiere, you are likely to encounter some annoying issues such as screen crashes, no audio, error messages, etc.
Basically the reason is that the .ts format isn't a codec that plays well together with Premiere Elements. To solve this dilemma, I've researched almost everywhere and finally found some possible ways.
Solution 1: As some guys suggested, .ts files are technically just MPEG2 files at a very specific resolution. We can try to rename the file extension from .ts to .mpg to allow Premiere Elements to read these footage.
I’ve tried the way. It indeed let me import the TS files to Adobe Premiere, but there is no audio track. I’ve reset some settings, no luck.
Solution 2: A more practical way recommended online is to convert TS to a common format/container for using in Adobe Premiere Elements. And MPEG-2 is the optimal format.
After testing Handbrake or even FFmpeg, I found the output videos workable in Adobe Premiere Elements, but it seems heavy quality loss after conversion. Finally, I pick HD Video Converter for Mac. How to transcode TS files to MPG for Premiere Elements?
STEP 1: Download, install the top TS converter on your Mac. Click Add to import the TS recordings to the program for converting. Check the “Merge into one” box, you can join several .ts files together.
 
STEP 2. Select Premiere/Avid friendly format
Click "Format" pull down list to select Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as the best video format for editing TS video in Premiere Pro.
STEP 3. Profile Settings
In case the default settings do not fit your requirement, you can click "Settings" button and enter "Profile Settings" panel to adjust video size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channels.
STEP 4. Start transcoding TS video
Click "Convert" button to start encoding TS recording to Premiere Elements editable foramt.
Once the conversion completes, you can click "Open" button to get the output files effortlessly. Now you have got it right, just import the converted .ts files to your Premiere Elements 10, 11, 12, 13 for playback and editing freely.
